Drawing from Life: Birds of Prey

Drawing from Life: Birds of Prey

On Monday 19th May 2025, ten Year 8 students were selected to take part in a unique and inspiring art workshop led by Stantonbury School's resident artist, Becky Gouverneur.

The focus of the day was drawing from life – not from photographs or still objects, but from live birds of prey, including the beautiful Barn Owl, Luna. This extraordinary opportunity allowed students to study movement, detail, and form up close, developing their confidence in observational drawing and experimenting with expressive mark-making techniques.

Over the course of the day, students worked with a variety of materials and also explored aspects of composition and photography. Their dedication, focus, and enthusiasm were exceptional, and the resulting artworks showcase both technical skill and creative imagination.

This exhibition brings together the students’ final pieces, professionally curated and presented by the ADT team, alongside selected works by Becky Gouverneur, whose charcoal studies of animals and birds have been exhibited nationally.
